Initially previewed as the Nissan Friend-ME concept in 2013 and in sedan form as the Lannia concept (pictured) a year later, the production version of the Nissan Lannia has now been scheduled to make an appearance at the upcoming Auto Shanghai 2015, set to take place at the tail end of this month.
The project, described as one that is “led by Chinese for (the) Chinese” will see the development of the first mid-size sedan created specifically for the youth of China. Styling wise, the Nissan Lannia is said to have been “inspired by the rising young Chinese generation, who are seen as energetic trendsetters with new values and aspirations.”
Using the concept version as a base, the Lannia relies heavily on a mixture of edges and creases for its bodywork while the front end adopts the marque’s trademark V-motion grille design and “boomerang-shaped” head lamps – a look executed rather nicely on the 2016 Nissan Maxima.
Further back, a ‘floating roof’ element helps to add visual drama along with the addition of stylised tail lamps. Whether or not these cues will carry over remains to be seen. As for powertrain options, nothing concrete has been confirmed but expect a range of petrol mills to be mated to Nissan’s CVT gearbox. Watch this space.
