The unique chair is capable of automatically moving itself to a set position, and does so with the aid of a roller fitted to it that provides 360 degrees of movement. To guide it accurately, four cameras placed on the room’s ceiling generate a bird’s-eye view to wirelessly transmit the chair’s position and its route to destination.
When put to the test, the chairs certainly impress by doing as advertised. However, we think security guards will be a little spooked by self-moving chairs when looking at their CCTV cameras, which appear to be a scene from Paranormal Activity or Poltergeist, with more cleanliness involved.
According to Nissan, this innovation means Japanese businessmen are now freed from the troublesome task of arranging chairs after a meeting or at the end of a work day. The automated “parking” chairs is inspired by Nissan’s Intelligent Parking Assist, which is found on Nissan models in other parts of the world. The driver assistance system is useful for drivers who aren’t very good at parking or fatigued after a long drive.
