Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) has announced that it is considering price increases on its range of Nissan models in Malaysia next year, if the value of the ringgit continues to fall against major currencies.
The company said in a press release that its business has been affected by the unfavourable foreign exchange and has implemented several cost rationalisation and efficiency optimisation measures to minimise the impact, but admitted that some of the cost may still have to be passed on to its customers.
“Despite all adversities, ETCM remains committed in providing our customers with quality, value-added products and the highest level of customer services,” said executive director Datuk Dr Ang Bon Beng.
“The company will continue to seek and review opportunities for more strategic operational effectiveness and efficiencies within the business and with our partners in order to ensure that the current prices of Nissan vehicles remain unchanged this year.”
The intention to raise prices on Nissan vehicles in Malaysia due to a depreciating ringgit follows a similar announcement from two other Japanese brands – UMW Toyota Motor has already confirmed a hike of about 4-16% on Toyota and Lexus models will take place in 2016, while Honda Malaysia has recently hinted that such an increase is possible on its own models.
