Nissan first introduced the X-Trail Hybrid in Japan back in April, with the country being the only place where the crossover was manufactured. However, with Nissan’s facility in Thailand, it now becomes the second plant worldwide to produce the X-Trail Hybrid. Speaking to Bangkok Post, Nissan president Kazutaka Nambu said the local plant was efficient enough to produce other Nissan hybrid models in the future.
For the Thailand market, the X-Trail Hybrid is available in three variants – 2.0 S 2WD Hybrid, 2.0 E 2WD Hybrid and 2.0 V 4WD Hybrid. As you can clearly see, only a sole all-wheel drive model is part of the line-up, while the remaining two are strictly front drivers. Powering all variants is a 2.0 litre MR20DD inline four-cylinder petrol engine that delivers 144 PS at 6,000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm.
The engine is paired with a seven-speed Xtronic CVT automatic
transmission (with manual mode), and is assisted by a 41 PS/160 Nm
synchronous electric motor. Nissan’s Intelligent Dual Clutch Control
allows for electric-only driving and energy regeneration by employing
one clutch between the engine and the electric motor, with another
located between the electric motor and the Xtronic CVT. On pure
electricity alone (EV mode), the crossover can hit speeds of up to 120
km/h.The combined power output of the hybrid powertrain is rated at 179 PS. On the 4WD model, Nissan’s All Mode 4×4-i all-wheel drive system (with Lock mode) manages power transmission. On the fuel economy side of things, the X-Trail Hybrid is said to be 20% more efficient compared to models fitted with the 2.5 litre QR25DE engine, registering a claimed 20.6 km/litre under the JC08 test.
Moving on to the X-Trail Hybrid’s kit list, the exterior features LED projector headlamps on all the variants, with the 2.0 E 2WD Hybrid and 2.0 V 4WD Hybrid having an auto on/off function. Similarly, only the two aforementioned variants receive an automatic liftgate along with automatic wipers, heated mirrors and front fog lamps. Alloy wheels measuring 17-inches adorn all X-Trail Hybrids.
Inside, the X-Trail Hybrid has seating for five unlike the non-hybrid models that seats seven. Leather is the material of choice for the seats, with only the top-spec variant receiving black-coloured ones (others get beige). Electric powered seats for the driver and front passenger are standard on all variants as well. Infotainment is handled by a five-inch touchscreen system (2.0 S, 2.0 E) or a seven-inch unit on the 2.0 V.
Safety-wise, the X-Trail Hybrid is well kitted with four airbags (dual front, sides) on the top two variants (2.0 E just gets fronts), Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), Active Brake Limited Slip (ABLS), ABS with EBD and BA, Active Ride Control (ARC), Active Engine Brake (AEB), Active Trace Control (ATC) and Hill Start Assist (HSA). An around view monitor is available on all variants saved for the 2.0 E.
